The colorful culture of Jaipur has lured the travelers as much as the rich history of the city. The cultural tradition of Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) has been kept alive in a beautiful way as we see in the attires of the people here, the cuisine, the festivals, music and dance and art. The rich and vibrant culture of Jaipur is a window to its great historical past and lives up the spirit of the state which was once home to India’s Rajputs. Even though the city has developed many folds to keep pace with the modern world, yet in this modernity it hasn’t lost its roots which they inherit from their ancestors and what we refer to as the cultural heritage of Jaipur.

Jaipur is famed for its colorful semi-precious stones, which can be seen in the Johari Bazaar of the city. Art and crafts are a big part of the cultural tradition of Rajasthan. The city is known for its miniature paintings, bandhni clothes, handicrafts, and silver and lac jewelleries.
The culture of Rajasthan is also seen in the colorful festivals that the city celebrates in unity. One of the most important festivals of the city is the Elephant Festival which is celebrated in the month of March. This is followed by the Holi or the festival of colors. A huge procession is held which comprises of elephants, horses, camels and folk dancers. The events which follow after this include a polo match, tug of war between men and elephant and elephant race. Gangaur festival is a beautiful celebrated in honor of Goddess Gauri. Women on this day pluck flowers, draw water from wells, and chant festival hymns.
Cuisine also forms an important part of the culture of Rajasthan. The real delicacies of Jaipur were cooked in the royal kitchens which you can find in the restaurants now. Some of the popular delicacies of Jaipur Dal-Bati Churma, Mawa Kachori, Besan Ka Gatta, Dahi Vada, Pyaaz Ki Kachauri, Ker Sangri, and Chakke Ki Sabji. People are vegetarian here. One of the best things that you get to see here are the attires of the people here who were the typical Rajasthani costumes which are high on embroidery, with mirrors and glitters and lot of silver and semi precious stone jewelleries. The clothes are always bright colored. One of the most eye catching parts of these attires is the huge turbans which the men wear and their long moustaches. The main language of the city is Marwari.
