The historical culture of Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) is one that has impressed the visitors since time immemorial and is still continuing to do so. Called the pink city, Jaipur city is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. The history of Jaipur narrates stories of the royal kings, knights and the royal guards. The history of Jaipur narrates tales of their bravery, of the wars that were fought, and narrates their love sagas. The city comes alive with its glamorous past, as one walks down the old winding streets of Jaipur and discover the magnificent forts, palaces, and temples each of which has own unique story to tell. The history of Jaipur dates back to the18th century when Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II was the ruler of the city.

As the population of Amber city was increasing and the scarcity of water was increasing, it became quite difficult to accommodate the total population of the city there. That was when Sawai Jai Singh went out in search of a place which was safe and secured and where a new city could be grown. That was how the city of Jaipur was discovered.
In 1727, Sawai Jai Singh founded the city with Vidyadhar Bhattacharya who was his architect. The city was built following the guidelines of Shilpa Shastra and can be called the first planned city of the country. Even after years of its foundation and the passing away of several generations, the city of Jaipur maintains its splendor and grandeur. Today many of the forts and palaces of Jaipur have been renovated and a part of the buildings have been converted to hotels by the royal families. Maharaja Jai Singh II was a Kachhwaha Rajput. He reigned from 1699-1744. Jaipur’s history is the one that has interested many and has lured more and more tourists to the city. It is said that Vidyadhar Bhattacharya consulted many ancient books on Indian literature and also consulted books on astronomy, Ptolemy and Euclid before implementing his plan. The major portion of the city was completed in 4 years. According to the history of Jaipur, the Prince of Wales visited the city in the year 1853. To welcome him, all the houses of the city were painted in painted in Pink which spread a magical charm about the city. The splendid charisma and the awe inspiring architecture of the city has earned the city million of admirers from all over the globe.
